Yoga for Breast Cancer Awareness
In case you didn't notice the masses of pink ribbons everywhere recently, October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month. It seems like a good time for a reminder that earlier this year studies have shown that yoga can improve the outlook and energy of breast cancer patients. (See "Restorative Yoga Helps Cancer Patients".) I also know there are many people in the yoga community who are working to raise both awareness and money for the breast cancer cause everyday. I'd love to hear your stories. What are you, your studio, and/or your community doing for Breast Cancer Awareness Month? How has your yoga practice influenced your work?

In a discussion like this, I always like to mention Yoga Bear, a terrific site for cancer survivors.

My focus for helping bring attention to cancer is focused on kids with cancer. Each year in Edmonton, Alberta they hold a Hair Massacure http://hairmassacure.com/ where participants die their hair vibrant pink and then have it shaved off in support of children with cancer. All proceeds go toward the Stollery Children's Hospital. This year I am fortunate to be one of the sponsors and will hold a "Yoga with Kali Bear School Assembly" for the school group which places 2nd in money raised (school #1 gets a concert). This is a wonderful project and I am very blessed to be part of the effort.
