Yoga for iPhone
At long last, the Yoga Journal iPractice iPhone application launched today, which means if you have an iPhone you can have access to 15 sequences from expert teachers in our pockets at all times. Visit yogajournal.com/ipractice to download the full version of the app for $4.99 or search for Yoga Journal in the iTunes App Store. (A free version with two sequences will be available soon!) This is a project we've been working on in the YJ offices for what seems like forever so I'm really happy to announce it's arrival! In it's honor, I'd like to point out a few other yoga applications I think are cool. To get any of these apps, simply search for them in the iTunes App Store.
Meditate - Meditation Timer (SimpleTouch Software, $1.99) If you're still using your kitchen timer to help you with your seated meditation practice, this app might be for you. It has a soothing bell that lets you know it's time to come out, and the counter is nice and big so it's easy to see if you like to peek to see how much time you have left.
The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali - The Threads fo Union (IndiaNic LLC, $0.99) This is an electronic version of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.
Chakra Deck (Kardeo, $0.99) This app is like a mobile deck of cards that gives you helpful information about individual chakras, how to identify imbalances, as well as yoga exercises you can try to bring that chakra back into balance.
Do you use any iPhone applications? If you don't have an iPhone, are there any other technological tools you use to help you with your practice?

I just bought the iPractice app, but I haven't really given it a thorough testing. Obviously it isn't a replacement for a live teacher, but it might help people who have trouble finding motivation when practicing alone. I am curious how the random sequence builder algorithm works, as I have often thought about how to create an iPhone app just like this.

This sounds great! I can't wait till I get an iPhone so I can use it. :)
I do have an iPod, and I regularly listen to a great series of yoga practices from Yogastrology (www.yogastrology.com). They align each zodiac sign with an area of the body, each one is about 10 minutes long, so you can do the whole series or focus on specific areas.
Diane's soothing voice really helps me to sloww down and be present in my body. You can purchase individual tracks for $0.99 or all 12 for $9.99 on iTunes.

There is really neat little Patanjai App I use you did not mention. Succinct literal translation as Patanjali intended in his 192 thread without the typical voluminous commentary.

I was driving home about a week ago and had a panic attack, called 911 and was driven to the er. It was the first time that I had one and really knew nothing about them
previously so was completely freaking out. Ever since I have still felt as if I wasn't breathing correctly (like my throat is closed up), and have had pains and tightness in
my chest. I was just wondering if this was normal because I have talked to a few doctors and they said I was fine, I read up a little about panic attacks symptoms
Any ideas?

If you have an iPhone, you don't really need to buy a meditation timer app. I made a ringtone out of a singing bowl, and I use that as an "alarm" with the timer on my iPhone. I also use the singing bowl as my alarm clock sound, since it's a much gentler way to wake up.
The wonderful thing about using your iPhone as a meditation timer is that you can meditate anywhere... rather than being glued to a clock location.

I also use the iPhone harp ringer as an alarm. It's unobtrusive and won't startle you as finish your session.

It is a nice digital companion. Fun to use and will surely be of great assistance.

Congrats, for the effort, but you please consider that there are also non I Phone/ I Pod users. I hope you will soon be available to offer other applications for the Blackberry or other than I Phone yoga community.

For New Yorkers, there's now the Yogoer iPhone app, which maps and profiles all the studios in the city.
I find that to-do apps like Toodledo help me practice -- if I schedule and prioritize yoga in my planners, it happens in real life too!

Good job, Yoga Journal! The iPhone-app-meets-yoga universe is powerful. Anyone interested in a world-class, sweet, user-friendly, touching, accessible-to-all meditation application ought to check out the just-launched " iMeditate with Erich" - with multiple guided meditations with yoga master Erich Schiffmann. I would like to see this expanded for the Palm-Pre. It would be nice when I travel. Do you have any plans to make it available to other platforms?
