Malaysian yoga controversy heats up

Although Malaysia's National Fatwa Council recently ruled against Muslims practicing yoga, saying it could corrupt them, the prime minister said last week that Muslims could still take up yoga, but minus the chanting. The ban has drawn widespread protests amid concerns over growing Islamic fundamentalism in the multiracial nation, reports Reuters.

Yoga recently became an issue here because some religious leaders believe the practice could cause Muslims to deviate from Islam.

How is yoga compatible with your religious beliefs?

Hm..what about they got the chanting translated into their language. It's just because they don't know what the hell of the chanting script then they said that it is a Hinduism prayer? well, people who don't know alot usually love to offense people but when they have a clear understanding then they should know every benefits of Yoga practice. or maybe the chanting could be change with Islamic prayer? :D

Yoga is an activity to enhance health and as such can be and is incorporated within wide spectrum of Islam. There is a rich tradition of meditative practice within Islam and 5 time prayer each day is a prime example. So, yoga chant translation or replacement with Islamic wording is not necessary.
