friends: i can't imagine affecting the world like mary dunn. she was too large a person to die from anything. when i heard she was ill, i went into denial. I told myself she would receive good treatment and be back teaching. I could not imagine losing her. i am deeply affected by the brilliance and zuberance she had for all of us and life. she was amazing, beautiful and kind always to me. even though she was a senior teacher, she caused me to feel respected and treated me as a colleague (which i very much appreciated). Mrs Palmer, her mother, helped me arrange lodging and classes with Mr. Iyengar for his first intensive at the YMCA in Ann Arbor. Mary was always a bit proud of that I think. no question. she was my unbelievably determined yoga teacher. as a mother she was an example to me (over pizza one afternoon, we talked about motherhood). as a person, she could have not been better to me. the last time i saw her was when Mr. Iyengar was in Washington D.C. and she accompanied him to the demonstration i participated in to honor him. afterward, she referred to me as Ms. Eka Pada Urdhva Dhanurasana...and she laughed and smiled as we laughed together. i loved her very much. i always will. thanking you mary from the deepest part of my soul....i love you. This community cannot do enough to honor you. You have surpassed us all.

There was an obit in the New York Times this week....

Unforgettable person ., Mary will keep on living within ourselves. Thanks to Iyengar Yoga, once more.

We first attended a workshop with Mary at the Silent Dance Center in Honolulu about 1974. And continued to study with her for many years.

She has inspired an entire generation of Yoga Teachers and students.

We will so deeply miss her.

It's October and I just found out Mary died. I haven't seen her since about 1987 ( I had the good fortune to study with her in San Diego for about three years). When I looked at the article on "Remembering Mary Dunn" I started to cry. I realized the impact she made on my life as a person and as my teacher.
What helps is knowing she is in a different form and still around. You'll always be with me Mary.
