Do your wrists hurt?

Do your wrists hurt when doing weight-bearing poses such as Downward-Facing Dog and Plank? Have you tried or heard of the Wrist Assured Fitness Gloves? The company claims the gloves "improve comfort by relieving wrist strain, joint pain, nerve compression and stress on the soft tissues of the wrist during weight bearing yoga asanas." For more information, visit www.wristassuredgloves.com. However, I still think most yoga teachers wouldn't recommend Downward-Facing Dog and the like if you suffer from carpal tunnel. What do you think?

Hi, I have found yoga to be very helpful for my RSI.

Modifications I've used include supporting myself on the front of the fist instead of a flat hand on the floor (e.g. for plank) and of course backing off and doing an alternative pose if it feels like I'm hurting anything.

The PT who helped me a few years ago really emphasized how important it is to gently build up my overall upper-body strength (upper back, shoulders), and I find I have fewer episodes of inflammation when I follow that advice. YMMV; namaste!

I do use Wrist Assured Fitness Gloves and it does help my wrists. I have mild-carpal tunnel in my right hand and tendinitis in my left hand. It hurt so bad I had to modify my poses. I rolled up the top of the mat in Downward Facing Dog. But that still wasn't working well. Now with Wrist Assured Fitness Gloves on helps to cushion and support my hands during Dog pose. I tell all my students who have wrist problems to get those Wrist Assured Fitness Gloves.

I bought these gloves almost a year ago and they are a godsend! I don't have it as bad as full carpel tunnel, but I was getting a lot of wrist and arm / shoulder pain. Many of my fellow practitioners at our studio, www.yogapura.com have also bought them with much success!

They have a 30 day trial - and even though they are kind of expensive, they are worth it!

thanks - jai bhagwan
