Swami Ramdev plans $20 million yoga center in Texas

A $20 million yoga and Ayurveda center, modeled after Swami Ramdev's Patanjali Yog Peeth in Haridwar, India, is being built in Rosenberg, Texas, reports Rediff India Abroad.

"As many as 30 percent people in the U.S. cannot afford medical treatment because of the cost. Our aim at this center would be to treat and cure such people through yoga and traditional Indian medical systems," Swami Ramdev told Rediff.

The center is scheduled to open in two years, although Swami Ramdev would like it to open next summer. Swami Ramdev claims to have cured millions of people in India of diabetes, asthma, hypertension, obesity, and arthritis solely through yoga. He hopes to do the same in the United States and is striving to create a "disease-free world." Possible? What do you think?

If run properly, it can have a huge impact to the American life. I am sure that lot of Americans will go there and do SEVA work, if it really benefits the American poor. If everything goes as expected, branches can be opened in other States also.

All the best to the founders and to the organizers…

This is is awesome!!!

I look forward to hearing more about this work.

If results are documented in a proper manner it may have a strong influence on how people approach welness through holistic practices.

Sending much blessings their way!!!

Yeah. Baba ramdev is a great yogi. He belives that everyone has birth right to remain healthy and he is making people to do yoga and inspiring them.

Good luck to you. I am surprised that Uncle Sam has not attempted to interfere with something so useful and powerful.
I can't wait to hear more.

"disease-free world." This is political possibility, I love SWAMI RAMDEV for he has set such worldly desire.

I received an email today from a young person who just began a pranayama practice using what she described as Ramdev's pranayama techniques. After 3 days he/she reported feeling great discomfort. I couldn't say exactly what he/she was doing but it was obvious that he/she was going too fast and too far for his/her level of ability. I'm not familiar with this teacher or his teaching, which I'm sure is of the highest quality. I'm just using this oppportunity to remind students that pranayama is a long, slow process and that techniques like forceful exhalations and extended breath holding are only for experienced practitioners, not beginners. I certainly encourage every practitioner to include a pranayama practice in their daily routine, but remember to stay well within your own abilities and never force your breath to do anything it's not prepared to do. It's OK occasionally to push yourself in asana, but with breathing that's never a good idea. At the first sign of discomfort stop what you're doing, reasssess your practice and, if possible, consult with an experienced teacher.

Swami Ramdev is a great yogi of our times. I've personally benefitted by his teachings of pranayama and Asanas. I whole heartedly recommend it to everyone.

well, baba ramdeve is definately one of the few people, who have brought yoga to the common people. I am myself starting up with yoga, watching his videos on tv.

And let me tell you, he's a great teacher. Starting with only easy asan, and telling everything in great detail.

He will show you everything again and again and again..until the routine is properly etched in your mind.

Still...there are people, who after being told to do pranayam slowly , will do it with full vigour. And probably that's the reason why he repeats the asans so many times :)

anyways, he definately knows whats he's doing, and he has the ability to teach 100.000 people at a time .... how many people can do that ??

It's a great news for USA and Yoga lover's.
Swami Ramdev has proven already, benefits of yoga to the world and it's time to spread the yoga world wide.
Good Luck to all yoga practitioners.

I am very glad to know the news but I feel it is too fast to open such a center in the USA. Bharat (India) needs more centers like Patanjali and I hope the desire to spread yoga to the world would not sideline Bharat. Many thanks to Baba Ramdev.

Very good initiative taken. The aim should be to spread yoga wherever it can be to help humanity.
