Another reason to go green
Maybe you've quit caffeine because you think it undermines the peace and balance that comes from your yoga practice. But, in addition to its cancer-preventing properties, here's another reason to drink green tea: A study published in the European Journal of Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation showed that green tea improves blood flow and the ability of arteries to relax, thus helping to prevent heart disease, reports Reuters. Are you a green tea drinker? If so, why? Which type do you like best?

I recently graduated to Yogi Teas from the ones of less quality and really like Yogi Green. I brewed a cup of Lipton Green at work one day last week and realized it's more like Earl Grey than Green. I wouldn't know this without Yogi.

In this blog you first imply that caffeine has cancer-preventing properties, then you say green tea. I am confused. Is it the caffeine or the green tea that has the cancer preventing properties? Does decaf green tea have less? Does coffee have these properties? Please clarify.

If you "quit caffeine because you think it undermines the peace and balance that comes from your yoga practice" why then would you drink green tea? It contains caffeine too.

Tara and Carl,
That is the conflict: many people quit caffeine because it makes them irritable BUT green tea has many good qualities. According to teachat.com, "In general, decaf tea should give you the same types of benefits as regular, but the strengths of those benefits will be lessened. The actual degree to which they're lessened is up for debate, though. Studies on the precise strength of the health benefits of tea are generally very mixed, due to the huge variability of tea types, sources, and qualities, not to mention the many different brewing factors (time, temp, etc), storage and packaging conditions, and methods and types of measurement. Decaffeination almost certainly will reduce the health benefits by some amount, but that amount might be dwarfed by some other factor. In short, decaf is probably not as healthful as regular, but it's still good for you."
Coffee is a completely different plant although after a brief search it seems caffeinated coffee may help prevent skin and liver cancer but increase the risk of bladder cancer.

I absolutely LOVE Green Tea Powder no.75 from PharmaGreen, It has up to tree times more antioxidants than other green tea and is a powder, so you can mix it in home made skincare!
