"The Love Guru" trailer now available

If you read my post on March 10, you know that Hindu leaders have asked to preview the Mike Myers comedy "The Love Guru" (opening on June 20). Now you can watch the movie's trailer on YouTube. And check out the movie's website, www.thegurupitka.com, complete with Mini Sutras, Words of the Week, and Yoga Poses. Funny or offensive? You be the judge.

Hilarious!! I can't wait for this to come out!! Enjoy it everyone!!

Uh oh..! I think Mike Myers missed the mark with this one. I had a few awkward laughs through the preview, but just doesn't sit right with me...a failed attempt to outdo the success of austin powers...

As a yoga teacher who happens to be a 1st generation Indian-American, I personally think this thing looks funny... maybe his funniest film since Austin Powers. me and my friends spend a lot of time making fun of our oftentimes zany culture, and seeing movies like this make us feel good by confirming our observations. And if u think this movie takes cheap shots at Indian culture, u can have ur revenge on Myers and watch any of the numbers of movies that make fun of Canadians (Strange Brew, Canadian Bacon, Mounties, SOUTH PARK!)

Here is another report. I'm assuming Hindu leaders have now screened the movie:

NEW DELHI, India (Hollywood Reporter) - "The Love Guru" has not received a warm welcome from some Hindu groups, who reportedly have requested that India's Central Board of Film Certification and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting ban screenings of the Mike Myers comedy in India.

In March, U.S.-based Universal Society of Hinduism president Rajan Zed was one of the first to protest the film when he said it "appears to be lampooning Hinduism."

Media reports Tuesday quoted Bhavna Shinde, a representative of Mumbai-based Hindu organization Janjagruti Samiti and Sanatan Society for Scientific Spirituality as saying that the censor board should "stop distributing or screening the movie till Paramount has made necessary changes ... so that it will not hurt the feelings of the worldwide spiritual and Hindu community."

"We have officially not received any request from any Hindu organization regarding 'The Love Guru,'" a spokesperson at the Mumbai-based Central Board of Film Certification told The Hollywood Reporter.

The film has not yet been submitted by its distributors for censor clearance.

"A release date has not yet been finalized as we have various other films slated for the summer, such as the latest 'Indiana Jones.' We haven't yet decided when we will submit the film for censor clearance as there is still time," said a spokesperson at Mumbai-based Paramount Films of India, the film's distributor here.

Promoted with the tagline "His Karma is huge," "Guru," directed by Marco Schnabel, also stars Ben Kingsley, Jessica Alba and Justin Timberlake and includes a cameo by New Age guru and author Deepak Chopra.

At first glance, this doesn't seem as funny as his previous efforts, but you must admit, Mike Meyers is FUNNY.
We have to lighten up as a culture!! Pretty soon, we won't allow ANYTHING because someone somewhere will be offended. I'm sure it was NOT his intent to insult any group, particularly Hindus.
He finds the funny side of things. He lives in L.A. He probably got this idea from observance of some of the kooky personalities out there. I'm not kidding.
Life is short. Allow yourself a laugh every now and again!
