Namaste, Sting

Yogis attending class at Downward Dog studio in Toronto got a surprise visit from Sting earlier this week. The musician, in town for the Police reunion tour, dropped into class a few hours before Monday's gig. "Everyone was quiet for a minute when Sting walked in, and then it just calmed down," says Leigh Anne Dunn, who has practiced yoga at the studio for five years. Has a celebrity ever attended one of your yoga classes? Was it a distraction? Inspiring? Energizing? Annoying?

It would be so awesome to do yoga with Sting, but I guess the Sting music my favorite teacher plays sometimes will have to suffice ...

Wow. I'm such a big fan of Sting. What a treat to have him in class. I imagine this would be a good test of my yoga concentration.

Probably less distracting than when Jesse Jackson popped his head into a class I attended a few years ago (his son was in the class). We all fell out of headstand.

Ryan Seacrest was in a Bikram class I attended.

Sort of underwhelming, I must admit, especially since I didn't even recognize him!

I had Julia Roberts in a class at Spa Ojai. She was late and noisy coming in, but was actually a very good student because she is trained to take direction and follows directions meticulously. She also seems very responsive to non-verbal communication. It was cool!

Leann Rimes and her husband took a class I was in one Saturday. Her husband is very buff, very gorgeous and very good at yoga! She seemed much skinnier and ganglier in person but also very much a normal person.

A few years ago while waiting for our instructor to arrive, Christy Turlington sat in for the instructor! Very cool, she is beautiful and an amazing yogi!

I attended Sting's concert after his visit to Down Dog - my studio of choice in Toronto. Check out my blog on the experience (inlcuding pictures!) at http://pranalife.typepad.com/pranalife_yoga/2007/07/topping-the-lis.html

When I worked at a yoga center in France, a famous British movie star took an Ashtanga class. One of the students came out of class to ask me if the movie star was indeed who she was.

I told the student to relax and go back to her yoga practice. The poor thing couldn't help herself; periodically she came out of class to gasp about how much she loved the actress' movies.

Another time, when I replaced Gurmukh's pre-natal yoga class in Los Angeles, a big-time American actress walked into the yoga studio with a smile, which changed into a frown the moment she saw me and it stayed on her face throughout the entire class. Yikes!

I teach a yoga class at the Royal Palms Resort in Phoenix. I had in my class Laura Bush and her girls Barbara and Jena, and may secret service arround. This was the morning of the last political devate before Mr Bush was re-elected.
