Lululemon takes stock market by storm

Yoga clothing manufacturer Lululemon took Wall Street by storm on Friday, despite an otherwise rocky market. Lululemon (on Nasdaq under LULU) stock opened at $25 and rose to $27.01. It raised $328 million in its IPO. The Vancouver company was founded by Chip Wilson who has 20 years experience in the surf, skate, and snowboard businesses. Do you wear Lululemon clothing? Thinking of investing?

My wife and daughters wear Lululemon yoga clothing. I have already bought some of their stock. If they do as well as their Vancouver BC stores, they will do very well.

Don't wear, but definitely thinking of investing! There's so much room for growth of this stock.

Lets hope that lululemon try to stay true to their original intention of staying eco-friendly and community minded. I have been wearing their stuff for years and it is great - but..... recently a lot of their manufacturing has shifted off shore to Asia. At the end of the day - investors have a responsibility not only to their bank balance - but also to demand that those who work for lululemon particularly in Asia - are getting a fair go in terms of working conditions and that the multinationals are contributing to greener, cleaner manufacturing processes - even in countries where it might not be the norm.

Bought stock. Wear it. Seems like good investment as stock price stays strong despite recent plunge in the market. I believe there is a lot of potential for expansion.

Can anyone tell me what's the proper pronunciation of Lululemon? People in Asia pronounces it as Lulu lemon (as in the fruit), or should it be Lulu le mon (le mans - car race)? Thanks!

If the company was doing so well/stock rising, why did they have to send part of their manufacturing offshore to Asia? (Assuming it had been in USA before that.)

Just looked it up and found Lulu was out of Vancouver.

I went into the store for the first time yesterday. I'm sure the stock and company will do well given the trendiness of yoga among affluent people. However, that place is way too overpriced for me. I refuse to pay $85 for exercise pants.

Carol,

Proper pronunciation: Lulu Lemon (like the fruit).

Lululemon has fabulous trendy clothes for yoga, IF you're not plus-size. My yoga students would love to be wearing these duds if they were available in plus-sizes, and petite plus-sizes. You don't have to be thin to enjoy the benefits of yoga!

No, I won't wear LuLuLemons, and I wouldn't invest in them either.. They promote themselves as a Canadian company, yet their clothes are made in China.. As a Yoga Teacher, I do not wear their clothing, because I don't want my students to think you need a fancy over priced outfit to come to class.
