Meet the Yoga Journal Editors
The editors of Yoga Journal sat in a semi circle. They faced about one hundred people who came to ask them questions. I wondered how tough this audience would be -- I mean, after all, the editors were there for an hour. They were trapped!
Turned out to be a love-fest. From a yoga teacher who takes articles from yogajournal.com to share with his students, to a beginner who savors her weekly "My Yoga Journal" email newsletter, most people expressed their deep thanks to the editors for publishing such a wonderful magazine.
That said, a few in the audience had suggestions -- one woman wanted to read more about yoga for people with disabilities. Another woman wanted to see more photos of women of color.
Andrea Ferretti, a senior editor, said that we have been working hard to include a wider range of "models", not only of women of color, but different body types and ages. She said that the last years' issues reflect that.
One astute member of the audience had this question. She asked why the cover lines-- or the copy that goes on the cover of the magazine -- were often more superficial than the articles themselves. That our articles actually go much deeper than the cover lines suggest.
The editors started to laugh. "Welcome," said one, "to the world of selling magazines."
