San Francisco: About Karen
Karen Macklin is a San Francisco-based writer, editor, and yogini who is originally from New York. She has written for more than a dozen publications nationally, including the New York Times, SF Weekly, Fit Yoga, and Tricycle magazine.
Her creative works, which include plays and poetry, have been produced and published in the United States and Italy. She holds an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from San Francisco State University and recently returned from a 9-month fellowship teaching journalism in Guatemala City.
She is currently the editorial director of Zest Books, and is co-authoring Indie Girl, a nonfiction book for teen girls, due to come out next spring.
Karen has been practicing yoga since 1999. She has studied with many amazing local teachers, and cites her most influential ones to be Jason Crandell, Jamie Lindsay, Bill McCully, and Diego del Sol. Karen's writing is influenced most by her urban roots, her international travels, her love of language, and her yoga practice.
