Yoga Here and Yoga There

groceryyoga.JPG
Summer is busy. This week, my lovely man did a yoga session on a sheet of plywood covered by a raincoat. He said it was great.

I have done handstands in my office, downward dogs on an enormous rock by the lake, and side planks at the public library while waiting for a meeting to begin. I sneak yoga while waiting for my car to be repaired.

And I would do it in the park
and I would do it in the dark
and I would do it on a rock
and I would do it on a dock

Yesterday I hung in a forward bend at the grocery store while looking at cans of tuna on the bottom shelf. No one said a word. I was there for ages.

Where will yoga show up next?  Where is your favorite place to sneak it in to your day?

Thanks to yoga for being so delicious that we want to sneak it here and there, we want to sneak it everywhere, and thanks to you for the conversation.

I loved this article. My running coach Orlando Darden, founder of BodyFitDC (www.bodyfitdc.com) referred it to me. As a yoga teacher and yogini, I practice yoga on the street and subway (tadasana - side twists - forward fold). I also do a lot of office yoga in my workplace.

I do yoga on international flights in my seat. Jet Blue had a card out, sponsored by Crunch gym, years ago with airplane yoga asanas I'll follow, along with adding in Ujjayi breathing and holding each asana for 5 breaths, akin to Ashtanga which I practice regularly. The poses are modifications of Uttita Hastasana, Tolasana, Bidalasana, plus a Hatha teacher also suggested modifications of eagle, and pigeon poses. I feel energised and not so bloated on those 12hr flights when I do these.
I'm always forward folding wherever I go as well;)

2am in a darkened hospital dining room!

I've done forward folds in book stores and elevators, and recently if I have some spare time before I teach (I work at an English conversation school in Japan) I like to do some sun salutations. Also, before my Saturday classes I have a ton of time every week so I like to try 10 minutes or so of meditation. Makes me feel good to know I'm doing something good for me, and hopefully good for the kids I'm preparing to teach each week!

My family and I were stranded on a plane after it broke down at JFK . Feeling stiff after sitting there for a couple of hours and after letting off more than half the plane (the rest of us chose to stay in hopes that it would be fixed soon) I lead about half of the cabin in balance poses in the tiny walkways in the airplane. Even though I would have done it just myself it was a great fun to see everyone join in.
